Guitarist, vocalist and bandleader Luis Mario Ochoa is a talented Cuban expat who immigrated to Toronto to expand his opportunities. His career has seen him work with many bands in many different flavours of jazz and Latin music. Often heard in a big-band context, Ochoa has never been more creative than with his fourth CD, last year’s Momentos Cubanos. Featuring his current quintet – including Paco Luviano bass, Joaquín Nuñez percussion and Chendy Leon percussion – Ochoa will offer an acoustic, more nuanced take on the Latin tradition. Also featuring Juno Award winning pianist Hilario Durán. “One of the most vibrant and exciting Latin bands I have heard in years.” – Jazz Review.com
