Event Description
This unique one act play combines spoken words written by Emily, music on guitar and mandolin with several songs included in the production: "Come By The Hills" and a poem set to music - "The Song My Paddle Sings" by Pauline Johnson. A painting is taken from blank canvas to 2/3 completed within 3 minutes on stage in front of the audience, and the audience is then invited to the reception afterwards, with tea, coffee, cookies and the finishing of the painting by "Emily" at the reception iteself.
This original work explores two days in the life of Emily Carr are explored in this original work, writen by Molly Raher Newman, based on her experience of 8 years in the role of Emily Carr at Emily Carr House in Victoria. The play ends with a short version of Emily's famous "Fresh Seeing" Speech, delivreed to the Women's Canadian Club at the Crystal Gardens in March, 1930.
