Event Description
Heartiest Greetings Everybody!
I am very pleased to tell you I will be giving a performance alongside one of my truest friends Andrea Palin in her hometown of Victoria, BC. The concert will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Cross on Thursday August 29th at 7:00 p.m., and there will be music by Debussy, Haydn, Chopin, and Brahms, there will be Andrea singing, there will be me playing the piano, and there will hopefully be you there to listen (the most important part!). For a little more information about what I do, please read on below.
Admission is by donation,
Warmest wishes everyone!
Pianist and composer Jesse Plessis recently obtained a Master of Music degree (Performance and Literature) from Brandon University where he studied piano with Megumi Masaki and composition with Patrick Carrabre. His Bachelor of Music degree is from the University of Lethbridge where he studied piano with Deanna Oye and composition with Arlan Schultz and Rolf Boon.
Plessis has been awarded prizes both in piano and composition, and has performed as a guest artist with several ensembles including the Musaeus String Quartet, members of the Land’s End Chamber Ensemble, and the International Piano Ensemble.
He has had the opportunity to give the Canadian premieres of works by Marcel Bergmann, Kaija Saariaho, John Corigliano, Nico Muhly, and Kjartan Olafsson. Recent performances include those with New West Theatre, at the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy, the Dark Music Days Festival in Iceland, and at the Banff Centre.
Jesse is also one half of the Hansen-Plessis Piano Duo (alongside Bente Hansen, University of Lethbridge) which explores the possibilities of popular music in the concert hall alongside the classical repertoire. Their performance of Jesse’s piano-duo arrangement of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the seminal psychedelic rock album by The Beatles, received an acclaimed premiere in August 2011, and will receive a reprise on September 21st, 2013 at the University of Lethbridge.
A sometime conductor, Plessis has directed performances with the Brandon University New Music Ensemble (BUNME), the Brandon University Orchestra, and several musical theatre productions.
