Monique Gray Smith’s book, Speaking Our Truth: A Journey of Reconciliation, explores how Canada’s relationship with Indigenous people has suffered as a result of the Residential School system and the lack of understanding of the historical and current impact of those schools. She will share her journey toward truth and reconciliation though her readings and stories.
The other journey was that of a young man who set out to travel through the mountains three hundred years ago. When his remains were discovered, First Nations elders called the discovery Kwädąy Dän Ts’ìnchį (Long Ago Person Found). Richard Hebda’s book, Kwädąy Dän Ts’ìnchį: Long Ago Person Found is a portrait of the man and his world, and explores how diverse ways of knowing can complement each other to provide a new understanding of our complex histories.
