Event Description
The Brewer, the Baker, the Community Maker - Beer Release and Community Fundraiser.
reFRESH Cowichan, the Cowichan Green Community Food Recovery Project, has teamed up with Small Block Brewery and True Grain Bakery to develop a series of beers made with bread that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. Their inaugural collaborative brew, a fresh hopped Rye-cycled “Rye-PA”, has been flying off the shelves and stimulating conversation since its release in early October.
The group is excited to announce the release of the second brew in their series of bread-beers, UpCycle Nut Brown Ale.
UpCycle is a precision crafted Nut Brown Ale that has included over eighty kilograms of donated day-old sourdough bread in its brewing process. With a dark brown colour, a medium caramel character, and a low-earthy hop profile, this brew is perfect to cuddle up with on a winter’s eve.
The fundraiser and release event takes place November 30th from 5 pm – 9 pm at Small Block Brewery, 5201 Chaster Rd. Duncan, BC. Individuals working with reFRESH Cowichan will be on site to mingle and answer questions about the program. The event also features Mexican Food Mafia, selling a variety of delicious foods utilizing recovered ingredients.
