Event Description
Sentir de América perform a selection of popular and traditional Peruvian Christmas carols and songs in “A Peruvian Christmas Carol”, giving listeners a taste of Peru’s rich culture. Pieces include Hanaq Pachap (from 1631), Blanco Pan (with its haunting melody from El Condor Pasa), Esta Noche Jesús ha nacido, Agua de Estrellas, El ahijado, Festejo Navideño, Rueda por la montaña, Carpintero Fino, and Cholito.
Sentir de América consists of Maribel Flores (voice, drum) and Martín Perez (voice, guitar. piano), who trained and performed in Peru for almost two decades before moving to Victoria in 2016; they are joined by Brian Titus (voice, woodwinds) of Victoria.
Between them, they sing with St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Choir, Lady of Fatima Choir, Sooke Philharmonic Chorus, Victoria Philharmonic Choir, St. Christopher Singers, and Via Choralis, with whom Martín is a choral and conducting scholar. Brian also plays wooden flute and penny whistles with the Odd Hack band for local contradances.
