“In honor to the African Heritage of Cuba” Pablo Cardenas present "Afro-Cuban Portrait"
The history of Afro-Cuban music represents an endless universe of beautiful melodies, incredible rhythms and unique dances. This is a big part of Cuban culture today, and is directly related to the Afro-Cuban religion. Africa is the main origin of all the different styles of this music, that includes the Toques de Bata, Bembe, (also named palo), and the different styles of rumba, a rhythm also based in African roots. The Afro Cuban music is also present mixed with other genres like Latin Jazz and popular Cuban music. One of the biggest attraction of this music are the “tambores Bata”, an instrument similar to the African yembe, on which both corners are played. Come check them out!
The West Coast Cuban Ensemble will be playing a selection of many of this rhythms and melodies on what will be a night full of musical richness and spiritual vibes.
