Event Description
The programme will include a mix of sacred and secular music, including works by Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, and Grieg. One of the biggest differences between vocal and instrumental music is the inclusion of words and the variety that different languages bring to music! We are excited to share the beautiful Scandinavian and Finnish sounds that bring life and meaning to the notes on the page.

Octet Victoria is a fully professional group of eight singers who are committed to creating excellent choral music here in Victoria, BC. Having a mixed choir of eight different voices allows a large amount of flexibility for repertoire, and Octet Victoria has explored music from all time periods spanning Renaissance to modern day. While still a new group, founded by Char Hodgkins in 2022, Octet Victoria has performed some of the richest music from the choral tradition such as motets by J.S. Bach and J. Brahms, as well as a variety of new music including selections by Canadian composers such as Ruth Watson Henderson, Stephanie Martin, and Nathaniel Dett.
Octet Victoria makes music on the unceded ancestral lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen), now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt nations. We are grateful for their stewardship of these beautiful lands that nurture, inspire, and sustain us.
