Son de Cuba is a group integrated by Cuban musicians, all graduates from Escuela Nacional de Música, Cuba.
Each member had previously worked with several bands in Havana, but it was with Fiebre Latina that they first worked together in a recording later promoted during their European tour in 1993.
Son de Cuba was born when the current members of the band decided to return to their roots and play traditional Cuban rhythms. They have now been performing for over a year with great success. They have played in several festivals, which include the opening for the first Luminara Festival in Victoria, THE LATIN-CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL and The Folk Fest, also in Victoria.
Throughout the year, they have also performed in some of the best well-known clubs in Vancouver; The Commodore [as invited musicians for Havana Jam, a larger Cuban band], Mesa Luna, and in Victoria, CLUB CAFÉ MERENGUE , Legends, Hugo’s, Tommy Bahamas and also The Empress Hotel and the University of Victoria, as well as in Nanaimo and Salt Spring Island. From the very beginning they have been involved in the community, playing in charity events and for community associations such as The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre and The Latin American Association in Victoria.
Their repertoire is essentially Cuban (son, timba, cha-cha-chá, pilón, conga, guajira), but it also includes other rhythms like samba, merengue and cumbia.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
